From the topic title I suppose you guessed what was happening... Well been busy with life stuff but if you recall that 1979 sportster I acquired a while back... it blew up... took it apart piston rings fell out of it and front connecting rod you could grab and move up and down without the crank turning. Well something had to be done... did some research and came to the conclusion! A $3000 sportster will always be a $3000 sportster no matter how much money you put into it. So I did a thing! Came home with a fresh brand spanking new frame and started to assemble what they call a big twin. Got a local company selling me discounted parts because of the outsourcing of them for 95% of the parts. They sold me a motor, transmission, frame, and anything else I need to make this happen. Some things I am picking up used like fenders and using parts off the sportster to make it work. Still a work in progress but I went with simplicity and function over style. Setup is a Rigid frame (no rear suspension), wide glide forks that came with the sportster,  harley evolution motor (80cui I believe), harley 4 speed (kick start only), and going to maybe be converting it over to a magneto and points setup to alleviate some wiring. Started in September and this is where it stopped so far. Short on funds have a trip coming up that needs be saved for haha. Indeed might change the front forks to a narrow glide... The wide glide is just off putting to me and i have a headlight and fender for the narrow one. Just goes with the "old school" look I think.

Update! Been doing some tinkering and trying to save for a primary drive setup. Got a fender set halfway and pipes hung on the motor just for mockup and have to figure out a few more mounts then i might tear it all down and get ready for paint. Debating on a clear coat with rust under it or do a powder coat. Not sure which way to go yet. Will get more pictures when I can.

Well it has been a little while but I got some more stuff done. Found a seat that sort of works and traded my old seat off the sportster and a seat I bought at a trade show for this one then decided to go a different route with the front end. I had to buy a lower tree from an FXR to fit but the front end from the sportster is now on it instead of the wide glide. Got a clutch setup with the discs, pressure plate, springs, and hub. Just need the primary setup to mount it to and we will be good to kick it over. Still need a few more things before it fires but it is 1 step closer. Here are some pictures of it sitting currently with a headlight I robbed off the sportster as well lol. My dad said it's a lot like the Johnny Cash bike... one piece at a time... Got a bunch of stuff done on the bike just been too lazy to upload the photos lol... painted it got my primary setup almost tightened down. Need a few more cables wires and bolts. Turned the motor over for the first time today as well https://imgur.com/a/UxrjKPR

Thanks just got my exhaust almost wrapped up today as well. loctite a few bolts put gaskets on the head pipes and get new studs and nuts so they don't pull out of the heads
